Hershey: A Second Chance is the story of a young boy struggling to learn to read and his huge Doberman who is more playful than obedient. When his teacher suggests he practice reading aloud to his dog, Dylan is stunned, but Hershey listens patiently and adoringly and Dylan’s reading improves. Learning about the local library reading dog program, Dylan knows Hershey is the perfect candidate. Unfortunately, Dobermans and other “vicious breeds” are banned. Thus, the conflict. Dylan agrees to present his research on the breed at a library board meeting with Hershey sitting at his side; however, Dylan is terrified of reading aloud to adults and worried that Hershey will not be able to sit still.
